Even with all the flaws, this is easily the best device of its kind on the market. I want one so bad! From what I hear, a 2nd generation one is on its way, so I might wait a bit.

You get a kindle specific e-mail when you buy a device and you can e-mail a .doc or .pdf file to that address. The formatting is not always perfect but I have had no problems reading either format.

kindle is only the future for fiction books....academic books will never move to the kindle..they can convert them to kindle but it won't sell.Kindle doesn't foster a study environment, it's made for story books that you can cosy up reading on your bed, or somewhere thats comfortable for you.

I don't care about buying books when there's no wifi connection, the dictionary and the quality of the screen are what matter most. What do you all like most?

It is capable, but they must be converted into another format which the Kindle reads, and I think Amazon offers a converter on their web site.

Beasts of the Harvest Moonby John T. Taylorwas my first Kindle download and it wasn't too bad for a sci-fi novel.
