Gorguts - Earthly Love

Quite brutal music, this is. Switch off now if you don't want a heart attack.Gorguts were a technical death metal band from Quebec City, Canada.Gorguts were formed in 1989 by Luc Lemay (vocals and guitar), Sylvain Marcoux (guitar), Éric Giguère (bass) and Stephane Provencher (drums). They released their first demo, ...And Then Comes Lividity, in 1990 which led them to be signed to Roadrunner Records. Their first album, Considered Dead, featured guest appearances by James Murphy (a guitar solo on "Inoculated Life") and Chris Barnes (backing vocals on "Bodily Corrupted," "Rottenatomy," and "Hematological Allergy").Lemay, the only remaining original member, returned in 1998 on Olympic Records with a new line-up consisting of Steeve Hurdle (guitar); Steve Cloutier (bass); and Patrick Robert (drums). This lineup released the album Obscura, which explored progressive and avant-garde territory. Obscura is a complex album with multi-layered dissonant harmonies and the lengths of the individual riffs can make their patterns difficult to pick out on a first listen. Gorguts' approach to harmony, rhythm and structure made Obscura an important technical death metal album.LYRICS:Flesh the feeble flesh confines the pain and soulVault in which, the earthly way, i bearEarthly Love my denialTears as a gift upon my mirrorBright...the pureness of the unperpetualThe meaningless heat of flesh, I ignoreReflection of betrayalFear as a gift, a creeping splendorFlows of ecstasies within the succubusThe carnal healings of the soulEarthly form of illusionFlesh, my desires a living radianceMust of ecstasies the mankind's incubusThe carnal addictions of the soulConcrete form of sorrowImpure malignant indignationIn my dreams, earthly love seems so brightI my nights, earthly love I denyEarthly love... carnal blissWhich I'll have inside of me until my end.Flesh the feeble flesh confines the pain and soulVault in which, the earthly way, I bearBright... the pureness of the unperpetual The meaningless heat of flesh, I ignoreReflection of betrayalFear as a gift, a creeping splendorEarthly love... carnal blissWhich I'll have inside of me 'till my end.(I know it's not the right lyrics... while I think from wisdom to hate is a great album, I dont think it really compares to obscura in terms of originality and intensity(plus wisdom to hate has a lame synth part on the 4th track). the weirdness of this album is offset by just how tight the songwriting is. and the vocals I find equally great since they dont conform to cliche death metal vocals(ie;being emotionless) the vocals on obscura are disturbing because they sound like the voice of madness. classic

I don't know about you guys but I liked Gorguts the most with their Consider Dead/The Erosion of Sanity a lot better, than their last two albums. The Fat dude singing on this album sounds pretty funny at times. Yes the album is talented, but its just fucking werid sounding. I do listen to technical death metal type bands, but this album isn't really my cup of tea.I would have to say From Wisdom To Hate is better musical as compared to Obscura.

True, I was just thinking the same thing. Always saw it as a tough dude with his arms crossed over his chest. But now i can make out and old dude sitting with crossed legs

"and then you'll beg" by Cryptopsy

They sound like typical shitty Goregrind to me. Not scary at all.(response to dgk990 regarding "Wormed")

Just because it's fun to listen to while you're high, doesn't make it stoner metal, nor does heaviness by itself. I mean, seriously? This is clearly death metal. Stoner metal, that'd be Kyuss and things like that.

that is the first time i've ever seen someone say that "and then you'll beg" by Cryptopsy is the best brutal death metal out there...I mean, none so vile was great, but Cryptopsy went downhill without Lord Worm. well at least in my opinion

I love this song, what's up with this cover?I thought it was goro when I first saw it, it takes a couple of glances before you fully get it.

I agree, this is intense metal but it has a weird groove to it and a heaviness that makes it stoner metal.
